TE AROHA BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The first meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council in 1936 was held on Thursday evening, the Mayor (Mr R. Coulter, Crs. G. Hedge, v. Hamilton, W. E. Smith. 1. Grice, H. J. Pease, \V. T. Dale, F. W. Firkin and W. C. Kennedy being present. It was decided to send a message of condolence to the Royal Family on the death of His Majesty. King George V. In response to the request or the Inspector or Mines, it was decided to send the following quarry report for 1935: Metal for roads 3273yd5, for buildings 360yds, total 3639yds at 6s 6d—£llß2 13S 6d.

Tourist Domain. A letter was received Trom the Tourist and Publicity Department asking that in respect of the Government offer of a subsidy of £IOOO for five years the correspondence be cancelled. It was stated that the Minister would visit Te Aroha to confer with the Mayor and member for the district on the subject. Correspondence was received from the Hamilton Borough Council stating that the heavy traffic allocation to the Te Aroha Borough Council was £IOB 2s 3d. The New Zealand Institute or Town Clerks, notified that the annual meeting would be held on March 3. it was decided that the town clerk, Mr F. W. Wild, be granted permission to attend. Municipal Abattoir. The manager or the abattoir reported as rollows on the stock slaughtered during the past month; Large cattle 83, sheep 186, lambs 110, pigs 36, the fees totalling £9B 15s 6d. The provisional pjans ror new council offices were placed before the meeting. The treasurer reported the bank credit balance at £370 1 os lOd and accounts totalling £3026 19s 9d were passed Tor payIt was decided to deTer consideration or the proposed motor camp at Ruakalta until a later meeting.
