Sir Archibald Geikie examined it in 1869 at the request of Dr. W. F. Skene, and said: "As a geologist, I would say that the stone is almost. certainly of Scottish origin; that it has been quarried out of the sandstone district between the coast of Argyle and the mouths of ’l‘ay and Forth; but there is no clue in the stone itsel! to fix precisely its original source." He found no evidence in the stone to suggest that it did not originally belong to the neighbourhood of Scone. the sandstones of which it perfectly resembled.—l am. etc., A SCOT.
