PROM FAME To POVERTY. ...—._. MR PHILIP NEVVBURY PASSES. NEW YORK, Jan. 13. Mr Philip Newbury, tenor, died today, less than a fortnight after the death of his wife, Madame Spada. The late Mr Philip Newbury was born in Dunedin. He met Madame Spada when he'was in England studying singing. After touring the Dominion about. 25 years ago. they went to America. A ‘cablegram received some weeks ago stated that the couple were living on a small home relief alliwance and Mr Newbury‘s occasional earnings by mic! lnstruclion. For many )eai's il’ness had kept bulb from following their profession. Madame Spada died on January 2.
