The first Plunket Shield match of the 1935-36 series was commenced at Eden Park this afternoon when Otago met Auckland. Auckland won the toss and decided to bat on what appeared to be a good wicket. There was a sensational opening when the second ball from Henderson, the fast bowler, saw Postles caught at first slip by Scandrett. There was r.o score when Weir joined Mills. Mills and Weir were subdued for half an hour in which 20 runs were scored. Weir appeared comfortable facing Henderson, turning him nicely to leg. Wickets Fall Quickly. Elmes and Dunning provided a double change in the bowling, the former accepting a one-handed catch from Weir. Two wickets were down for 29 runs. Mills was only eight when Vivian started.
