WOMAN SHOT DEAD. MAN DIES FROM WOUNDS. “SENSATION AT NGARUAWAHIA. TRAGEDY IN BOARDING-HOUSE. ( (By Telegraph.-— special Reporter.) NGARUAWAHIA, Tuesday. A sensational tragedy occurred this afternoon when a man nam oo Wheeler shot a woman, Mrs Chlppengale dead, and then turned the weapon on himself, Inflicting Injuries to which he later succumbed. Creeping into the sitting room where Mrs Allen Chlppengale, aged 47, was sitting on the settee, Walter George Edward Wheeler, aged 48, shot the woman in the back of the head, and afterward turned the gun on himself, Inflicting a severe wound in his right temple. The gun was a 12 bore double barrelled shol-gun, Mrs Chlppengale s head being almost -completely blown oq. She was billed instantly. Shockingly Injured. Wheeler was shockingly injured and died shortly after the arrival of the police. The pair conducted a boardinghouse in Herstell Street, Ngaruawahia, and the only one at home at the time of the tragedy, shortly after 2.15, was a' young woman, Mrs Hill, employed as a domestic at the house. She was in the rear of the house and hearing two shots in quick succession, rushedMnto Hie room and discovered the two bodies on the floor. She immediately notified the police. Wheeler, who at one time was rii employee at the Ilorotiu Freezing Works,, had been off work for several months owing to an injury received at the Ilorotiu works. He had lived in Ngaruawahia for many years. Mrs Chippengale had resided in Ngaruawahia for about eighteen months. . Mrs Chippengale had an adult son slaying at the house, but he was not at home at the limeThere was very little to account for the tragedy. The InquestAn inquest will be opened for identification purposes to-day.
