HEALTH CAMPS.
THIS YEAR'S NATIONAL PLANS. MORE CHILDREN TO BENEFIT. When this year’s Health Stamp Campaign was inaugurated by the Go\-ernor-General on September 30, a national survey was made of the work which had been accomplished by eleven Children’s Health Camp organisations throughout the Dominion. It was a heartening record of achievement, severely limited by finance, but the -generous immediate response of the community justified liberal extension of health camp plans fo.r this season. A further survey lias been made of this national effort for the children, and the Director-General of the Post Office (Mr G. McNamara), has ascertained that not only will the original health camps provide for nearly double the number of children, but additional committees have come into action in order to effectively utilise the funds raised in their own localities.
The Community Sunshine Association, Auckland, is budgeting this .year for 1000 children Instead of 750, and it also wishes to extend its work the whole year round at the Sunshine School in Auckland, where delicate children are cared for and educated. Thames Children’s Health Committee, which sent 22 children to a health camp last year, will send at least 25 this vear and more if' funds permit. The Waikato Children’s Health Camp League.has varied activities, including the provision of boots for poor children and the running of a dairy farm to provide supplies of milk. “Once we get out or debt,” .reports the chairman, "we will endeavour to keep our camp going for six weeks or two months and be able to deal with 500 children instead of 200.” The Sunlight League of New Zealand (Christchurch) reports that since the League has received funds from the health stamps its expansion each year has nearly doubled itself. Last yea it took 50 children into its camps, and this year will take 100 into four camps and possibly a fifth.
