EVENING AT TAUPIRI. A pleasant time was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. A. Powell, Taupiri, on Thursday evening, when a ■bright party, arranged by friends of Miss Nuki Powell was held,to celebrate her recent engagement. The evening was spent in dancing and games. Among those present were:—Mesdames W. A. Powell, E. Tremaln, R. T. Hill. Misses N. Powell, O- McFarlane, K. Powell, O. Bell (Ngaruawahia), A. O’Conner, M. Gerring (Ngaruawahia), D. Burgess (Huntly), B. Jackson (Ngaruawahia). i BREAKING OF CAMP. ■FUNCTION AT HOPUHOPU. To mark the breaking of camp the territorials at the Ilopuhopu military camp held a very enjoyable social evening in the camp' hospital on Saturday. Competitions and games were held during the early part of the evening and dancing was enjoyed until midnight. , Messrs. Harold Wilson and Lance Buckingham were M-’sC. Among those present were: —Mcsdames Lewis, Waters and Little (Ilopuhopu), Johnston (Huntly). Misses E. Silvester (Taupiri), 0. and G. Lewis (Ilopuhopu), I. Haines (Hamilton), Wallbank (Ngaruawahia), 1. Lister (Taupiri), A. Parkes (Huntly), B. Needham, D. Armstrong, Davidson, M. Kerr, 11. Armstrong (Huntly), A. Eagleson, J. Stanley and M. Eagleson (Taupiri). TE AROHA FUNCTION. ■GIFT AFTERNOON. At the annual orphanage gift afternoon of the Te Aroha Ladies' Auxiliary, Mrs G. Rayner presiding, an address on the work of the orphanages was given by Mrs Taylor, who lias had six years’ experience in Hie work, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded her. During the afternoon solos were given by Mrs W. Dearlove, elocution by Miss C. Jackson, and a play-read-ing by Misses M. Stewart and 11. Hunt. Over 70 new garments were handed in to lie forwarded to the orphanage.
