In New Zealand. c A big Christmas attraction at Auckland will be “White Horse Inn,” a spectacular musical play that has been a great success in England and Australia. It is a very % colourful production. “White Horse Inn” will make theatrical history in New Zealand, for a revolving stage will be used for the first time here. This will enable the elaborate, settings to be presented without loss of time. The romantic leads will be played by Romola Hansen and Herbert Browne, who were last in the Dominion two or three years ago in revivals of “The Merry. Widow,” “The Arcadians” and “Florodora.” Alfred Frith will be principal comedian, and assisting in the fuhmaking will be Charles Albert, one of the original Pollardians. The story of “White Horse Inn” is set. in the magnificent background of the Austrian Tyrol. The pretty proprietress of the inn is loved by the head-waiter, but is enamoured of a young English solicitor. A young heiress enters the triangle, and'the squaring of the difficulties is attended by all the perquisites of musical comedysinging, dancing, and lavish scenes. Early in the New Year the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, which is drawing large audiences in Sydney, will come to New Zealand. It will be good to. hear the tuneful and witty old operas again. The company will include Winifred Lawson, Evelyn Gardner, Helen Langton, Ivan Menzies, Gregory Stroud, Godfrey Stirling, Richard Watson, Bernard Manning, and Clifford Cowley.
