EXTRAORDINARY SHOWERS. SOME AREAS BONE-DRY. Extraordinary local showers, of unusual severity in some parts and nonexistent in others, resulted in a scattered rainfall in the Hamilton district yesterday, The morning was the holiest experienced this summer, the thermometer registering 00 degrees in the shade. After midday clouds gathered with rain threatening in most areas. It fell, however, only in certain districts.

A motoring party which reached the Narrows about 3 p.m. stated that rain came down in torrents there. After waiting in vain for half-au-liour for it io abate they decided to return to Hamilton via Hukuhia. Here Hie road was bone-dry and line weather ruled unlit rain scattered the crowds at the hake about an hour later. The southern part of Anglcsca Street was drenched while the northern portion past Hood Street was untouched by rain.

Many Claudeiands residents waited patiently for rain until nearly dark in the hope of avoiding the necessity for using garden hoses on Ihe garden but rain did not come. On the Palmerston Estate the downfall was particularly heavy, gutters and water tables being quickly Hooded.
