£50,000-A-YEAR TENOR,
TORE UP £20,000 CONTRACT (By Air Mail.) LONDON, Nov., 20 Beniamino Gigli, one of the world’s finest tenors, has neen signed by Alexander Korda, chief of London Film Productions, to appear in a British film. The subject is not announced, but it will probably be a new version of “Don’t Forget Me,” Gigli’s only other film, recently completed for an Italian company in Berlin. Gigli, who makes £50,000 a year, has been unable to come to terms with Covent Garden to appear jn opera. I-n 1932 lie tore up a £20,000 contract to sing at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, because he was dissatisfied with its conditions. Mr. Sam Eckman, jun., London chief of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, announced that liis firm plans to make a series ol films in British studios.
