WAIPA MEETING.

INTERESTING ANNUAL FIXTURE.

THE TE AWAMUTU CUP. REVIEW OF PROSPECTS. The annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Cluh will be staged at Te Awamutu on Saturday and with the racing surface in splendid condition good racing should be witnessed. The Te Awamutu Cup Held has drawn nine runners and the Hack Cup the good field of fourteen. Following are the fields with a review of the prospects by “Martian : 12.0

Class is not represented in the hurdle event but the company, neverthe less, should provide an interesting contest. Prince of Orange should be benefited by recent racing and produced near his best he should prove equal to a solid effort. Mangu King s performances this season have not been impressive but he must be conceded prospects here. Sandy Uix is a possibility who shaped like an improver at the Waikato Hunt on Labour Day, while L’Allegro, too, is not without chances. Last Lap and Sweet Lap will command a following, while the best of the others is Killadar. The best supported may be— SWEET LAP MANGU KING SANDY DIX 12.40 KIHIKIHI HACK HANDICAP, • Of £100; 6 fur.

The material is there for an Interesting race. Queen Nona has prospects, and Tonncrre and Little Artist are a likely pair- Trouvaille has been working sufficiently well at. Te'Rapa lo suggest that he may prove •capable of improvement on recent essays. Application should he suited by the turning course and Ills early speed will stand to him at the finish. Little Leslie lias been working satisfactorily at headquarters and will have his chance here lo make amends

for his failures at the Waikato meeting. Worthy King ran one of his best races on this course, while Torch will be racing on his home track and may show to better advantage than at Te Rapa. Diacquedoon, Sir Tommy and Sweet Rose are prospects and the latest track esays of Dark Shadow suggest chances for the three-year-old. Brilliant Aore and Glenation are possibilities, but one to make greater appeal is Karohla, whose second to Gloucester on the first day of the Takapuna meeting held promise of better things. The Cup field is full of possibilities. King Rey, on recent performances, reads as outstanding In the class, but on the turning Waipa track he may have his work cut out to hold off a number of the light-weight division. Gay Mai ’ has been working well at Ellerslie and Gay Broney’s first-day Avondale form strongly commends him. Scotland and Adalene will make matters interesting at the weights, while Gay Rose, if properly attuned, will he battling on a iho end. Solomon should run well and the track essays of Psychologist would indicate that he is likely to strike form at any time. Musquil should hold La Femme Noire safe. The concluding event has drawn a good field. Lady Zinnia is a likely improver and the recent track essays of Killadar and Loombination point to them performing solidly. ' Snow Lap and Little Artist are strong possibilities and likely Te Rapa entrants are Sing Lee, Trouvaille and Race Whip. Looks Well. 1 Dark Shadow is hearing a bright, and muscular appearance and should strip in fine order for liis engftpeinent 10-rhorrow at Te Awamutu. He appears among the Waipa Plato entry and should give a good account of himself.

Beryl Latour. , „ The- chances of Beryl Latour In the. Pkterangi Handicap (1 mile) to-mor-row aro thought highly of in certain quarters and on the way she shaped over a mile yesterday it would appear that she possesses good prospects.

Haok Cup Fancy. Tin Lap was responsible for two fine performances at the recent Avondale meeting and If she can reproduce that form to-morrow she should not fail to keep the opposition fully up to It at the end of the Hack Cup. The turning track may he against her, however.

Loombination. ■ Loombination appears to have benefited by recent racing and his effort over lialf-a-mlle yesterday was one of the best of the morning. He will be hraoke'ed on the machines with Erination and the bracket should not lack support.

Karohla. . Since racing at the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie Karoha has been doing well in his track essays at Wapia headquarters. He shaped pleasingly! yesterday in the final gallops am should lack nothing on the score o£ j condition when he goes into the j starter's hands to-morrow. j

L’Allegro. L’Allegro, when previously tried over hurdles did not make a great success of it and it will be interesting to see how he shapes in the W. GPark Hurdles to-morrow. Yesterday, in company, he shaped well over two hurdles at headquarters. Trouvaille. Trouvaille has been working along satisfactorily in his allotted tasks on the local tracks of late and in the oompany engaged in the Kihikihi Hack to-morrow he should rise to a solid effort. The racing he had at the Waikato meeting appears to have benefited him. Little Artist. The class engaged In the hack six to-morrow is not strong and Little Artist, who opened his winning account at Pukekohe last month, should take a lot of beating. 'ln his limited racing career he has performed consistently and he should prove capable of another smart effort to-morrow. Prince of Orange. Prince of Orange Is entered for the G. W. Park Hurdles at Te Awamutu and in the class engaged he is not without 'Chances. Were he to reproduce his fine form of several seasons ago he would make short work of the poor opposition offering. He is to have the services of R. Cotter. A Promising Sort. An interesting entry In the Hack six to-morrow Is the five-year-old Acre gelding Tassau, owmed and trained at To Rapa by A. Winder. In his preparation on the tracks he has shown promise and as ho is looking fit and well he must be conceded prospects in his coming engagement. Is Speedy. In his races at the Taumarunul meeting at Paeroa Sir Tommy showed a fine turn of speed and on the turning To Awamutu track his chances cannot lightly he discarded. Little is known of his present progress. He is a four-year-old by General Latour from an Advance marc and is trained at Cambridge by J. W. McFarlane. Prospects of Torch. While he failed to live up to his private reputation at the Waikato meeting Toroh should not be passed over lightly because of his failures here. The going was holding and appeared to be troubling him over the deciding stages. On the turning home traok to-morrow ho may be seen to better advantage. Light Comedy. In the summing up of the Hack Cup to-morrow the credentials of the Te ■Rapa-trained Light Comedy should not be overlooked. She won narrowly on the second day of the Waikato meeting under conditions not entirely to her liking and demonstrated in a work-out yesterday at headquarters that she is fit and well for engagements ahead. Killadar. Killadar is entered for both the Hurdles and the Ohaupo Hack at Te Awamutu to-morrow and while nothing definite lias been announced indications are that he will start in the latter event. Yesterday in the final gallops at Te Awamutu he was responsible for the best seven furlong essay of the morning, shading Maine in the good ‘time of 1.2 S .

King Rey. King Rey is strongly fancied in local quarters for the Auckland Cup this month and he is to be given a start in the Te Awamutu Cup to-morrow. He ran right away from the opposition on the first day of the Waikato meeting last month and as he has taken no harm from his racing at the local meeting he should take a power of beating to-morrow. Yesterday he was responsible for a sterling, trial over a circuit of the course proper.

Sweet Lap. Sweet Lap has shown promise on several occasions over hurdles and at Te Awamutu to-morrow she appeals as a good prospect at the weights. On the first day of the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie she was unlucky to miss a place and though she fell on the second day of the gathering it appeared at Ihe lime that she may have been in a place but for lliat mishap.

Wahine Reihi. Wahine Reihi is enlcred for both the Hack Cup and open sprint at Te Awamutu, but it was slak’d by trainer U. Carmont yesterday morning that the mare would dofiuilely lie reserved for the sprint event. Willi llu* handy impost of 7.1 the Uaecful mare should make a bold showing. She has a fine burst of speed and Iho Waipa track should suit her capabilities.

Gay marigold. Gay Marigold, who lias been paid up for iu the Te Awamutu Gup, lias nol raced since the spring. However, she has been in regular work most of the time and shaped well in a gallop over six furlongs at Ellerslie the oilier day. So far the daughter of Grand Knight has not won a race this season, but when at her best is a galloper above Ihe average. If produced in Iho Cup 10-morrow she will not lack support.
