A TEST.
(To (he Editor.) Sir,—l suppose most people have some test for whatever Government is in power, and my test for tlie present one is the way it handles Hie finest ion of labour for farms. Make no mistake about it. this is going to be a real ; problem, and personally 1 cannot see ! any 'solution. Wages may gu up, but |if they also go up in Ihe towns the I lads will slay there, and I have yet |lo meet the man who thinks thet ! farmers could afford to pay more than 1 the people In I own and so get suitable young mm to come into llm country. ! To quote one or two cases where | men have slaved for years does not i help much. They are probably men j who prefer country life, have found a good home and reasonable conditions, and are content to stay. I have done my best for my men. but they will not slay. One of the best wauled to join bis mate in an 'Unemployment camp, and went. The best, a lad from town, was sell ling down well, and quile happy, hut his father located a ,ioh In town and insisted that the lad should take it. The intentions; of Ihc new Government arc splendid, but bore is Ihc tesl of Iheir capacity. And whalever else II may be il is going lo lie inlercsling.—! am, etc., ON THE LAND. -Uorrinsvillc, December li.
