INCREASE IN NOTE ISSUE. GOVERNMENT DEPOSITS HIGHER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Reserve Bank return for the week ended December 9 was gazetted to-night. The statement is balanced at £26,026,144, or £760,046 more than at the close of the previous week. Following an increase of £110,718 last week, the note issue has risen by a further £744,992, the expansion for holiday season demands being well under way. Goernmcnt deposits are higher by £239,418, while those of the trading banks have fallen £148,114. The item other demand liabilities shows a decrease of £81,157. Sterling exchange lias again increased, the rise being £749,026, compared with over £3,000,000 the previous week. Oiher movements on the assets side of the statement are of minor importance.
