Tiie Yorkshire Posl says the possibility of the diversion of the urg-ently-needed wool clip via the Cape is worrying the trade. It is becoming increasingly diflicult lo obtain Merino tops for reasonably quick delivery. Most lopmakers are quoting delivery not earlier than December. THE SYDNEY SALES. STRONG GENERAL COMPETITION.
PRICES SHOW AN INCREASE. SYDNEY, Oct. S. At Hie Sydney wool sales to-day 12,907 bales were ordered and 12,105 were sold. Also, 12 00 bales were sold privately. Strong and general competition was forthcoming from the Yorkshire and Japanese -sections, with good support from the Continent. For the best spinners’ wools suitable for Yorkshire the market ruled from par to 5 per cent, above the closing rates of last week. OUtor descriptions were firm and unchanged. Greasy Merino sold to 191 d. The average price of the wool sold in Sydney last week was 115 3s 3d a bale, or 11.9 d a lb.
