WOMEN'S DIVISION.

HAMILTON BRANCH. Members are reminded of the monthly meeting which will take place ■on Tuesday, October 8, at the Y.M.C.A., beginning at 11.30 a.m. It is desirable that all members will be as punctual as possible as it is expected that two visitors will address the meeting. Mrs Mclntosh will speak on the Mortgage Corporation Act, and Mrs F. J. Ryburn, President of the South Auckland Provincial Executive will discuss some matters relating to the Provincial. The roll call is “ Something for the Winter Show stall or pay one shilling.”

NGAHINEPOURI BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Ngahinepouri Branch of the Wolmen’s Division was held in the 'hall on September 26, Mrs Ryburn presiding over a large attendance. A motion of sympathy to Miss Vickers -In her sad bereavement was moved by the president and carried in the usual manner. The roll call was “ A cure for burns.’’ The monthly competition, a three-course nutritious dinner, was won by Mrs J. J. Ryburn. The flower competition was v/on by Mrs Newdick.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Allen and Newdick.

OHAUPO BRANCH. The annual social and dance of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Ohaupo Hall on Thursday evening, and proved a successful one.

Excellent music was played 1 by the Magpie Orchestra, an extra being played by Mr T. Renouf. Mr W. Hamilton was M.C. After supper Mrs Pierce (president) spoke, thanking all helpers. Mrs H. Godfrey (president, Te Awamutu), briefly spoke on the many aims and objects of the Women’s Division and congratulated the Ohaupo branch on Its success. Mr Steenson, on behalf of the Farmers’ Union thanked the ladies for a pleasant evening and wished them further success. Mr Furness also congratulated the local branch on its growth and organisation.

Jackson, R. Coutts, B. Trundle, 'Carter, ’M. Forsyth, J. Edwards, T. Macaneny, Bolton, R. Edwards, L. Field, S. Ballagh, H. Field, G. Mitchell, J. Sage, E. Ballagh, J. Ilaryey, M. Smithie, J. Queally, Furniss, N. llorneman.

CARD TOURNAMENT. AT TE PUNINGA. There was a large attendance at the card tournament organised by the Te Punlnga branch cf the Women’s Division of the • Farmers’ Union In aid of the children’s health campaign, and held in the publio hall. The first prizes were won by Mrs E. Cooper, (after tieing with Mrs H. Giddy and Miss R. Lee) aiid Mr J. Wilson (after tieing with Messrs. J. Greene, J. B. Spice and J. Spice). Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Alice Earl (after tieing with Mrs J. Bee and '.Miss R. Donald), and Mr I. Giddy (after tieing with Messrs. L. Raddlings and W. Conning).

ELSTOW BRANCH. Miss N. McCormick presided over a good attendance of members at the September meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. A letter from the Piako County Council asking for a nomination of a member for the Crippled Children’s Society was discussed and it was left in the hands of the committee to inquire into the matter, with power to act.

It was deckled to stage a court with the Junior Branch at the Agricultural Pastoral and Horticultural Society’s show in November, provided that suitable partitions are provided between the courts. A letter of appeal to all to use Health Stamps was read. The Calf Club wrote asking for suggestions for raising money to run the club and the secretary was instructed to reply giving several suggestions. The competition for the worked supper cloth was won by Mrs S. Carter, Ngarua. Mrs J. D. Mackay gave a demonstration of making humpys, wliilo Mrs Hair gave her impressions of tho Dominion conference.

A competition for a hand bouquet was won by Miss A. Rea with Miss E. Strange second and .Miss E. Dalo third. Another competition for an iced sponge was won by Miss E. Strange, with Mrs If. Strange second. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mcsdames Wild, Allen and Priest.
