BYDNEY GRADUATES BLAMED. EMPLOYERS OBJECT TO THEM.. Despite complaints that Sydney ! University Students are being ignored by firms seeking employees, one reason for their failure to get Jobs Is that they are not making strenuous efforts to find them. This Is the opinion of Mr J. M* Wilcox, part-time secretary of the University Appointments Board. He ■added that another reason was that some employers object to having ■ University students on their staffs. Mr Wilcox said that, though the board had been reconstituted in June with the objeot of filling an urgent need In University life, only 30 out-of- v work graduates had sought his help I in finding positions. “Jobs are waiting for students still," he said, “partictilarly in ohemistry and a few in economics. It is not much good canvassing for Jobs if we have nobody to offer for them.” Unsatisfied Requests. In recent months he had encouraged a number of employers to approach the hoard for men, but he was now in the unfortunate position lof being unable to satisfy all requests. | During term, Mr Wilcox continued, he had visited the University three times each week for enrolments. On an average he had received only two applications weekly. He considered that six months was needed to establish contacts with city business men to produce results equal to those which had marked the progress of the Melbourne University Appointments Board. , That body had been remarkably successful In finding work for students, and it was I now a recognised thing for Melbourne | business men to apply to the board for employees with University qualiI fleations.

The secretary -of the Melbourne board had Informed him that, as a result of southern overtures, the Commonwealth Public Service would now probably offer i'O per cent, of administrative jobs to "University men if highly qualified. Ho expected more than 100 Sydney students to enrol for employment at ■the close of the Michaelmas term. At the last meeting of the board Mr Kevin Ellis, president of the Evening Students’ Association, was coopted as a member.
