CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD
WORK ON VOLUNTARY BASIS. (Empire Press Union.) OTTAWA, August t. Government legislation before Parliament at the recent session proposed at first to set up a board that would havo control of the marketing of all wheat produced in Canada. In the face of strong objections from many quarters (he bill was amended. It was passed without, the feature of compulsion, and the board will co-operate with existing marketing agencies. The new hoard of three members will deaf willi wheat, only, it will •set a fixed minimum price which producers will receive for their wheal: it will take all the wheal that is offered: •but producers have the alternative of •selling through existing channels if they so prefer. The Winnipeg Grain Exchange will continue to operate as In the past.
The hoard is expected to employ existing marketing agencies although In its discretion it may establish ils own marketing channels. It will take, over the wheat now held on the Government's guaranteed account, about •’2d.000.01M1 bushels. Producers who sell io i he board at its fixed price will be entitled to additional payments if llie market justifies them. This price will he, set at llie beginning of each crop year.
