LOCAL OBSERVATIONS. Miss R. Budd, of Messrs Balfour, Irvine and Webster, supplies the following local observations on the weather: Barometer. Monday 30.10 Tuesday 30.00 Thermometer. Mas. Min. Sunday 62 48 Monday 63 37 Mean Temperature, 50 deg. The barometer reads 30.00 and has very little movement. Indications are for partly fair and partly overcast weather to-day; with lower temperatures; north-wester-ly winds prevailing. The Rainfall. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 9 o’clock, this morning, .16in, Rainfall for previous 24 hours, .02in. Total for August to date, 4.29 in. Average rainfall for August, 3.96 in. Rainfall for year to date, 36.55 in. Yearly average. 46.321 n. SOUTH AUCKLAND AREA. (By Govt. Meteorologist.) The special forecast by the Government Meteorologist, covering the WaikatoThames Valley is as follows; Forecast: Moderate to fresh west to south-west winds. Weather mainly fair, but a few isolated showers in the ranges. Seas moderate. General Inference: A depression is crossing the South Island to-day, while an anti-cyclone still covers the Tasman Sea, and extends into the North Island.
