Sunday 5G 42 Monday 53 42 Mean Temperature, 47.5 deg. The barometer reads 29.75 with a rising tendency. Indications are for improved weather 'conditions to-day, with lower temperatures; winds chiefly from a westerly direction. Tho Rainfall. Rainfall for" 24 hours ended 9 o’clock this morning, .30in. Rainfall for previous 4S hours, .94in. Total for August to date, 3.G4in. Average rainfall for August, 3.9 Gin. Rainfall for year to date. 35.90 in. nearly average. 4G.321n. SOUTH AUCKLAND AREA. (By Govt. Meteorologist.) The special forecast by the Government Meteorologist, covering the WaikatoThames Valley is as follows: Forecast: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds. Weather cold and changeable with scattered showers. Seas rather rough to rough. General inference: Barometers have risen steadily over most of the Dominion, ■hut a slight depression is now moving onto southern New Zealand- An intense anti-cyclone still covers Eastern Australia and the Western Tasman Sea.
