NEW ZEALAND VISIT.
STATEMENT BY MR COATES
WELLINGTON, Monday
The possibility of a visit to New Zealand toy the President of the United States, Mr Franklin D. Roosevelt, was referred to toy Hie Minister of Finance, Mr Coates, in an interview to-day. Mr Coates’ opinion of President Roosevelt is ihat tlie President is wonderfully alert and cheerful amid heavy cares, and he looks forward to visiting New Zealand. “ ‘ Somehow- or another,' lie told me,” said Mr Coates, “"I will go to New Zealand in i'937,’ and I assured him that such a visit would he well worth while.” Mr Coates talked with President Roosevelt for one and a-half hours. Trade relations between New Zealand and the United States, 'and current world questions, were the topics of what Mr Coates described as a most useful chat, opening up important possibilities which are being Immediately followed up by Mr J. W. Collins, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Canada, who met Mr Coates in Washington, and Dr. Campbell, economic adviser, who accompanied him from London and returns there to assist the High Commissioner.
