ANXIETY NEUROSIS.
LED TO MAN’S DEATH. NOT PHYSICALLY SICK. There seemed to be no doubt that an anxiety neurosis prompted Alfred James Neweombe to take his life, said the Sydney City Coroner (Mr Oram) after inquiring into Hie deatli of Neweombe, 49, commercial traveller, of Homer Street, Earlwood. NewconVbe’s daughter, Dorothy Edith Neweombe, -said her father returned from Brisbane about the end of June and complained about his health. On July 23 he went to bed looking “far from well.” Next morning when she went to call him she found him dead. A bottle of poison was found in the room. Not Physically Sick. A letter from Dr. C. M. McCarthy, of Brisbane, was produced. It informed Mrs Neweombe that her husband had consulted him on Juno 20, •and he had diagnosed his case as “anxiety neurosis.” "Medicine is a very small part of his treatment," wrote Dr. McCarthy. “He needs reassurance and the re-establishment of ills confidence. . . . Do not be alarmed, us bo is not physically sick.” A finding of suicide by poisoning was recorded.
