ASSISTANCE FOR YOUTHS. ABUSES OF DOLE POLICYAmerican systems of unemployed relief were described at an Optimists Club luncheon at Wellington, by Or. W. Amyes, of California. Federal relief, lie said, lutd done a great deal for (lie youth of ihe country by providing I'nnd .'im| clothing until young men found work. During llie summer,- unemployed men attended camps organised by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and provided with forestry work. Through Government, public, works it was hoped that within the next two months work would be provided for 3,500,000 men, he continued.

Dr Amyes criticised the cash dole, and said that the GovernmenTs policy allowed many abuses, and some of the men on the dole could afford cars. As a result of unemployment administration (here had 'been a great increase in Government employees, and though nobody know where their salaries were coming from, this did not, seem to worry tho authorities.
