TO COST A MILLION. The richest man In the world » preparing to spend £1,000,000 to celebrate his. Silver Jubilee as Nizam of Halderabad. This Indian ruler does not know the full extent of his wealth. He is now trying to discover the figure, and a speciai staff has been appointed to take an inventory of his possessions. i His Jubilee festivities in the city of -A Ilaiderabad in October will account for the £1,000,000. Western ideas of celebration will be brought to the aid of Eastern splendour. The Nizam’s designers have been in London during the Jubilee, and many of the decoration designs in Oxford Street, Bond Street, and Fleet Street will be reproduced in Halderabad. There, the work has already started, and festoons, garlands and banners are appearing. Arches modelled on the Taj Mahal at Agra and the Pearl Mosque at Delhi are being built. A special power station is to be constructed to illuminate the Nizam’s palace,) the State buildings and the city’s many beautiful lakes. A magnificent durbar, planned on the lines of those of the old Mogul emperors, will be Hie great event of the celebrations, and will attract 20,001 guests. The greatest event will be the fight of 100 massive State elephants.. Besides hundreds of Indian princes, representatives of the Viceroy, and Europeans, there will be visitors from Moslem countries like Persia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Arabia, and Iraq. Among them will be the ex-Shah of Persia, whose daughter was recently married to the Nizam’s heir. • Amid all this splendour the Nizam, small of stature, leads a simple life surrounded by a court, the etiquette '' of which is strict. . '
