CALL AT PALMERSTONAPPEAL BEFORE BOARD. (By Telegraph.—urcss Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The question whether Palmerston North should he included in the route of Great Pacific Airways in their proposed Auckland-Duncdin passenger and air mail service was again before the Transport Co-ordination Board to-day. In July the hoard announced its decision that Palmerston Nor ill should bo excluded from the route of Pacific Airways in view of Hie fact that it was a northern terminal of Union Airways’ inter-island mail service from Palmerston North to Dunedin. Protests were at once made by a number of local body authorities and | business committees, and iormal ap- l plication was made by Aviation Development, Ltd., on behalf oi Great Pacific Airways for an amendment to the license granted Pacific Airways, Sir Stephen Allen presided, Messrs L. Alderlon and H. B. Johnstone, associated with him. A large number of local authorities arc making representations in favour of the inclusion of Palmerston. Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Lower Hull are making representations through counsel or oilier representatives of councils and business interests, and from the East Coast and Hawke’s Bay centres and districts representations have been received by the. board in writing. Mr H. F- O’Leary, for Great Pacific Airways, contended that Palmerston j was un essential port of call in the route of a service the object of which was lo servo the whole of New Zealand- Ho referred to the representations made by the Union Steam Ship Company to the hoard, that Palmerston should ho excluded from tho route of Great Pacific Airways, as an • attempt to cripple t lie operations of I iiuii company. Palmerston must he I tpe biggest air-travel centre, as it i was Hie present, biggest road and rail centre of Hie North island. Mr O’Leary referred to Hie proposed time-tables of Union and of Great Pacific Airways to show dial Hie two services cater for a different I ypc of passenger and mail load, and said the | Palmerston call was essential for the connection between Wellington and the Hawke's Bay and East Coast areas. Sir Stephen Allen replied that it | would he more convenient for passengers from those districts to Wettington to conic direct to Wellington 1 rather than change at Palmerston. ) . (proceeding.)
