In the Newport (Rhode Island) tennis tournament Bryan Grant defeated Menzel, 4 —o, G —3, G —l, G —3. Budge beat Wilmer Hines, G—B, G—2, G—o, o — l. In the semi-finals Shields heat Parker, G—3, G —3, G—4 and Budge beat Grant, B—G, G—4, G —l. Budge won the final, defeating Shields, G—3, 5—7, 3—G, B—G, 6—l. Mrs Wills-Moody announced at San Francisco to-day that she will not play in the national championships at Forest Hills. The tournament at Wimbledon and the journey to England and hack were an effort and another trip is more than she feels able to .'undertake at present.
