THE BANNED DERBY,
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Cambridge was “en feto” on Saturday for the finish of the Pram Derby. At the winning post an extremely large number of people gathered. The crowd was amused, generous, and well controlled by the officials. Strangely enough, there were no casualties from runaway prams or passing trafflo. It says little for the Hamilton Borough Qouncil’s estimate of Hamiltonians’ intelligence that they were prohibited from viewing an amusing spectacle and from giving donations towards a deserving chanty, on the grounds of personal safety. If other and larger centres can successfully carry out these amusements, why not Hamilton? While other towns are awaking from the depression coma Hamilton sleeps' peacefully and determinedly on.—l am, etc., • RIP VAN WINKLE. Hamilton, August 5, 1935,
