Martial law has been declared in Crete as a result of disturbances following a strike of wine workers, who sacked the administrative offices at Candia and looted gunsmiths’ shops. Thirty people were injured. Two destroyers, also aeroplanes, have been sent to assist the Government. ORDER SPEEDILY RESTORED. DISCUSSIONS WITH STRIKERS. \ DESTROYERS TO STAND BY. General Bakopoulos .arrived from Canea with a strong force and speedily restored order. He lias opened discussions with the strikers. Destroyers have been ordered by wireless to stay at Milos.

The day’s casuallties in Crete were six killed and 40 wounded. l’lie continuous ringing of church bells incited the people to revolt. General Bakopoulos, who was wounded in the fighting, gave the strikers two hours in which to surrender. They did so before the expiry of the time. '
