THE GUERNSEY EXAMPLE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I see by your correspondence oolumns that the inhabitants of Guernsey are again being quoted as an example of a people who made their own money and got things done for nothing. About a year ago I visited the Auckland Publio Library to inquire into this question, and found that Guernsey has to-day quite a respectable publio debt —about £l2B per head, if 1 remember rightly. What fools the Guernsey peoplo' must have been tc run up this debt when they could have got the money for nothing!—l am, eto., A. WARBURTON. Ngaruawahia, July 25, 1935.
