COMMITTEE MEETINGB. The fostering of a closer co-ordina-tion between the membership and 'th# association was * the decision of the House and Membership Committee at its initial meeting. Mr Ron Griffiths' presided. The committee decided that the attendance registers should be analysed periodically and constant touch toe maintained - with members. Messrs. Massey and Lloyd were deputed to undertake bringing, the rolls up to date. The control of th© house property and materials is to have special attention, Mr Trevena and the secretary undertaking to check up the schedule ,of property and bring down a report for further discussion at the next meeting. , Open Forum. ' Members s of the Sunday -open forum were entertained to an illustrative discussion on .smoking led by Mr De La More on Sunday. A surprising degree , • of tolerance to smoking was' shown by the speaker. Each person-was en- . dowed with certain characteristics which should be preserved ra'ther than stultified in an attempt to ,be “a - bear amongst bears rather than a- man alone." In neurotic cases or in sedentary , occupations smoking may actually’toe of" benefit and recommended; healthy, and robust living had, however, the greater appeal to. him. There was a surprising dearth of scientific investigation into the effects of. narootlo drugs inhaled by tobacco smoking. There hid, however, appear to be some authority to support the condemning of smoking amongst women as narcotic drugs had a damaging effect when a woman’s' whole resources of life were most required. Miss If- Scotter thanked the speaker for the Informative talk. Indoor Games. Members have acquired aji added zest for indoor games, badminton, ping , pong and even rope quoits having their keen adherents. An exciting game, of rope quoits kept the attention of a number of the senior members on Monday. The straight throw backed toy determination showed the experienced hands with the advantage. Badminton games were marred by the inferior bats, which urgently require replacing. The ping pong players have hopes of gaining a place in the Hamilton competitions and practices are being maintained. Personal. Members of the Dairy Industry Executive Council and leaders of the Waikato Dairying Industry met in the lounge during Thursday and Friday. Miss Lottie Barlow, a keen member of our drama circle, has left l’of an extended holiday trip to Sydney rind Norfolk Island. Members will look forward to a review of her experiences.'
