The newspaper Asahi Shimbun says the Army is submitting to the Cabinet a national defence programme involving an outlay of £60,000,000 in four years, of which £3,334,000 will be devoted to doubling the'Air Force; £13,333,000 to modernising the Army with the latest tanks, automatic rifles, machine guns, motor transport, and anti-aircraft equipment; and '£13,333,000 to increasing the efficiency of the Army in Manchuria.
