INCREASE IN DIVORCES,

CONCERN IN BRITAIN. REGISTRY OFFICE MARRIAGES. .LONDON, July 26. “ Many people are concerned about the Increase in the number of divorces, but I think it would be well ■to begin at the other end,” said the Rev. W. C. Jackson in his presidential address /at the Methodist Conference at Bristol. ‘Consider the amazing increase in the number of marriages contracted in registry offices, in many cases with an utter disregard or Christian sanctions,” said the speaker. Mr Jackson added that the first careless rapture of Methodist union had vanished, and the Church-was now engaged in reorganisation and regrouping. lie hoped it would not be necessary to close more churches. The fabulous wealth created by machines was ordained of God and should be used for the general good. Insurance and pension schemes were more wonderful than wireless and possibly more beautiful in the sight of God than cathedrals.
