THE WRISTLET WATCH
FASHIONS IN EUROPE. Since women’s watches came out of hiding from those secretive little lockets in whalebone bodices they have had seasons as brooches, locket designs, and decorative bracelets. Now there is evidence in Europe of feminine impatience with the wist watcii and many of the smartest people will not wear one at all, preferring bold metal “furniture” for the wrist, and liking immensely clips and buckles on the bodice. Parisiennes in numbers are carrying watches in the vanity bag, a tiny thing encased in a cover of exquisite 'finish. But the luxury jewellers are showing beautiful brooch and clip watches for wearing on high-necked frocks. They are dismantled of the dressy character of the 1900, but otherwise similar with true-lovcr knots and drop designs shorn of their fancy edges and frill. Set with small diamonds they look like line embroidery. For sport the young Paris women choose wristlet watches moulded in ebony or walnut wood, the “timber'’ cut very fine to suggest lightness and style. Slender leather thongs or wooden plaques are wrought into modern bracelets for these watches.
