Viscount Wakefield, whose name has been associated in recent years with the encouragement of rocordbreaking attempts on land and water and in the alt, to-day received the freedom of the Oily of London. He was formerly Lord Mayor and this honour is unique for a .past member of the Corporation.
Tributes were paid to .Lord Wakefield’s many acts of generosity and benevolence.
Viscount 'Wakefield has long been recognised as a generous patron of motoring, speedboat and aeroplane enterprise. He Was knighted in 1007 and in 1015 was Lord -Mayor of London. '
- Lord Wakplieid is said lo have given more than .15,000,000 in contributions toward British air prestige. He backed many flights 10. Australia, Including that of Missl Jean Batten. He was created a baron in ,1030 and a viscount last year.
