BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
. The fourth birthday of the Ngaruawahia branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon and was most successful. Representatives were present from ten neighbouring Institutes and the lower floor of the hall was ' almost filled The proceedings opened with the singing of the Institute anthem, after which the president, Mrs W. L,. ' Hughes, extended a warm welcome to the a-visitors. small presentation was then made to Mrs M.' Loughnan who until recently had been president of ’the'Ngaruawahia Institute since its inception. The programme arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames D. R. Welch and C. E. Wjlson. During ‘the afternoon a, play was presented by Miss E. Starr and Mbs-: dames Pattie Courtney, McCurdy, Wil-i son, Menzies," llarrop and Loughnan. ' Other items were given 'by , ’ s, E, Starr and Mrs C. E. Wilson, and community singing was led by Mrs 13. R, Welch, Miss M. Menzies being- the accompanist. A competition was won by Mrs Harris (Whatawhata). The afternoon concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
