FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE STATION
The fortnightly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, presiding. Also present were Messrs W. Bourne, C. Lafferty, A. M. Bisley, A J. Denz, W. W. Dillicar, F. Findlay, H* D Caro, H. M. Hamipond, J. E. Tidd, r’. MoCaW, F. Best, W. A-.Curteis, R, Worley ('borough engineer), W. iL. Waddel (town clerk), I. Webster (electrical engineer), and J. W. Lewis (inspector). In connection with the proposed ■site for a 'St. John Ambulance station "in Ward Street the borough Engineer was instructed to prepare a plan showing the proposed road through the depot with the suggested site for the station, and the town clerk was asked to ascertain the position regarding the title of the land. The Hawera Borough Council wrote expressing appreciation of the 'council’s action in making the borough engineer’s services available respecting water supply and drainage problems at 'Hawera.
In reply to a letter from Mr A. Jarman it was decided to offer no- objection to the holding of a procession from Victoria Street to Franlcton on the occasion of the opening of the new Druids’ Lodge at Frankton on August 28. v Street Improvements. Correspondence and circular letters relative to the revised scale of pay for relief workers as announced recently, were received from the Commissioner of Employment. An application for "a building permit for a workshop in Parr Street was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. On the recommendation of a special committee It was decided to make arrangements to obtain prices from agents for 4-ton and 14-ton trucks with suitable bodies, allowing for. the Vehicles now in use being handed in. It was resolved to advise Mr E.' A. Stenherg and others that the matter of kerbing King Street would be considered with others in the next schedule. A committee was 'instructed to report on the lighting of the street and also regarding the question of trees and street lights in Hardley Street. ' Tlie question of providing new conveniences instead of those at present at Marlborough Place will be finalised with next year’s estimates, according to a recommendation of the Works Committee. The borough engineer was authorised to bring down a plan and estimate of the cost of making
suitable provision on the triangle between River View boarding house and the Post Office. A proposal to set up a trading committee, advanced bytyr Lafferty, was referred for consideration to the General Purposes Committee. The question of the limitation of licenses for taxis was referred to the next meeting of the Transport Committee'
