SUNSHINE LEAGUE

WORK AT HOSPITAL. MAINTAINED DESPITE DIFFICULTY THE PAST YEAR IN REVIEW. The fact that the work of the League has been maintained during the past year, despite the difficulties of the times, is mentioned by Mr 11. D. Caro, president of the Waikato Hospital Patients’ Sunshine League, in his report to be presented at the League's annual meeting in the Centreway tearooms on Tuesday evening. “ We have no means of raising funds other than by voluntary contributions and unless we can secure regular revenue the League’s activities cannot go on,” says Mr Caro. “ I feel that residents of the Waikato, especially outside districts, do not recognise the good work this League is doing.” Every week sweets, tobacco, fruit and cakes were distributed to hospital patients, the children's ward, and also the Old Men’s Home were also provided with luxuries onco a week. During Christmas week the League provided Christmas trees and presents for the children’s wards and every inmate of the hospital received a gift. The ladies’ committee of the League worked all the year round making garments for the hospital patients, while tho League also provided and eonducted concerts at the hospital every week. Assistance Appreciated. “ If there Is anything special on in the- way of sports or entertainments the League provides free transport for convalescent patients who wish to go,” adds the report. Thanks are extended to the following for their help and interest during the year:—Women's Division Farmers’ Union, Hamilton and Morinsville; Ohaupo Community Sing Committee, Rotary Club, Hamilton; Hamilton Rangers and Guides, League of Mothers, and- St. Andrews’ Social Club. The following are also thanked for books and papers:—Hamilton Library, Paul’s Book Arcade, Bond’s Book Shop, Radio Circle, Peter Pan, and the Dolly Varden. The thanks of the League were due to the ladies’ -committee, who by their untiring efforts, have made it possible to carry on the work of -the League. " In conclusion I would once again stress the fact that we must have funds to carry on our work, and make this special appeal for help,” concludes the report. The statement of accounts discloses a credit balance at the close of the year under review of £'2-8, compared with £4B at this time last year.
