The King lias approved the appointment of Mr Francis D. Osborne, Minister at Washington, to be His Majesty’s Envoy Extraordinary and 'Minister Plenipotentiary to the Holy See.
Sir Francis Frazer, of Wellington, deputy-chairman of the Executive Commission of Agriculture, is at the Hamilton Hotel.
Mr R. H. P. Ronayne, district engineer of the Public Works Department at Whangarei, is in Hamilton.
Messrs G. A. Marchant, of Stratford, and W. E. Hale, of Ngatea, members of the Dairy Board, are at the Hamilton Hotel.
Mr Caradus, superintendent of the Technical School, at Te Aroha, is being transferred to Auckland, and will leave to take up his residence in the city next month.
Mr J. W. Miles, Deputy-Commis-sioner of Patents, has left on a holiday visit to England. He will attend the International Copyright Convention.
Mr 0. 11. Thomas, of Auckland, was yesterday admitted by Mr Justice Kallas a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court, on the motion of Mr C. P. Nutsford.
Dr. G. 11. Cunningham. Director of the piant Research Station at Palmerston North, has been awarded the Hutton Medal for research, the award being made for research work in New Zealand fungi.
Messrs D. Jones and G. A. Duncan, of Wellington, members of the executive Commission ol Agriculture, and Mr 11. D. Steel, secretary to the Commission, are at the Hamilton Hotel.
Mr \V. 11. Field, M.P. for Otaki, staled yesterday that he intends to retire from polities. The announcement coincided with his 71 th birthday. Mr Field, who is a Wellington barrister, represented Otaki in the House of Hepresenlativos from I'JUO to it) 11. Hr. was re-elected in ID It and has retained the seat until the present dale.
At a meeting of members of the Hamilton Workingmen's Club a tribute of respect to ttie late past President, Brother K. Quill, was paid. A number of brothers spoke very feelingly of the sterling qualities of the late Mr Quill, and after the President, Brother Cooney, had moved a vole ot condolence with the bereaved familj, members stood in silence out of respect to the late oUlcer.
