KILLED BY LIGHTNING.

DAIRY STOCK BTRUOK.

WOMAN AND GIRL’S ESCAPE.

PUTARURU, Wednesday

A singular occurrence of lightning fatally striking dairy stock happened at Putaruru on the property of Mr E. Jones, when an isolated flash of lightning accompanied by a loud peal of thunder, struck a group of three cows and a yearling calf, killing the four animals instantly. The brilliant fla3h appeared to extend over a radius of some twenty feet where the stock had been grazing.

The occupants of a house nearby, Mrs Jones and two small girls, received minor shocks, but recovered shortly. The extraordinary nature of the flash and the accompanying peal of thunder was that they were completely isolated and were not preceded by any similar flashes.
