The petition for the reprieve of George Percy Stoner has been signed by scores of thousands of people throughout England. It is expected that when the taking of signatures ceases on Thursday—five days before the date fixed for the execution of Stoner —500,00 U people will have signed it.

George Percy Stoner, chauffeur, aged 19, was convicted on May 31 on a charge of murdering Francis Mawson Rattenbury, architect, aged 67, his employer, and was sentenced to death. Mrs Rattenbury, 31, widow of the murdered man, was acquitted on the capital charge. She committed suicide last week.
