HAMILTON HARRIERS,
OUTING ON SATURDAY.
TEAM TO VISIT NAPIER
The Hamilton Harrier Club's run on Saturday was over a course of about four to five miles, starting from the Illllcrest School. The trail for the greater part led over clean open country and enabled a fairly stiff pace to be set. However, two gullies, overgrown with scrub and blackberry, were encountered and these necessitated a decided slackening of pace. The fast pack lost no time over the open country and covered the last mile in good time. A long hill about half-a-mile from home was made use of to test the staying powers and ability of the various runners. The long climb combined with the hard going gave club officials a very good idea of the capabilities of the Individual runners of the new men. G. Wood, A. Donovan, and R. Livingstone were prominent throughout the rup. Wood, who finished gamely after a good run over the last mile, should give quite a good account of himself during the season, and will, undoubtedly, be a strong contestant for a place jn the club’s senior team.
The more seasoned runners had the advantage of past experience and were consequently able to hold their positions with perhaps less exertion than that extended by the newer men. So far the greatest improvement on last season’s form is shown by A. Bloore. Next week-end three of the the club’s representatives, under the guidance of the deputy-captain, will he competing in a road-race at Napier. Although they may lack the necessary Alness for an event of this nature, it is anticipated that all three will creditably uphold Ihc club’s reputation against the ißay’s best.
