RIOTOUS WINS CHIEF EVENT.

LADY ZINNIA SURPRISES

Ideal weather conditions prevailed /or the concluding day (Saturday) of the Te Kuiti Racing Club’s annual meetißg at Te Rapa. There was a large attendance and the racing was again of a high and interesting standard. The going, while holding, was not as yielding as on opening day. The favoured division fared belter on this occasion,. three winning outright and four being in the p’acc money. This was not without its effect on the totalisator which showed an increase on last year's corresponding figures. The big race of the day, the Kawhh Steeplechase, was won decisively by the favourite Riotous from Royal Limond, these being the only horses of the six starters to complete the course without mishap. Valpeen, who returned riderless to the birdcage, was re-mounted by his owner and ridden over the final obstacle for third money. The hurdles was to the credit of the improving Travelling Agent, who paid double figures for his initial success. The Waitomo 'Handicap was won by the first-day winner, Tybalt and the sprint by Princess Star.

. The gate takings over both days amounted to £432 4s compared with £4lB 11s Gd last year—an increase of £l3 12s Gd.

Snow Lap lost his rider at tho start, Tutor Jumping out clear of Holly Lu, PhiaKuo, Lilbert and Nahlln. Along the back Tutor and Holly Lu were still in charge, with Pliiakuo following and Lady Zinnia, Lilbert and High Tea, in that order. Racing across tho top, l’hiakuo had moved up behind Tutor, this pair being followed by Holly Lu, High Tea, Lady Zinnia, jNahlln, Green Patch and Street Dancer. Lndv Zinnia was lying behind Tutor as they turned Tor home, and in a good Mulsh Lady Zinnia wore down Tutor to prevail by a length, with Keith Lu two lengths further back. TOTALISATOR UP.

INCREASE OF £2085. SPIRITED BETTING. Ideal weather conditions coupled with the success of three favourites, contributed to the improved turnover of the tolalisator at Te Rapa on Saturday, the second day of the To Kuiti Racing Club’s annual meeting. Over die two days of the meeting the machines handled £30,573 com-

pared with £28,400 for the meeting last year—an increase of £2085. On Saturday £ i 7,-481* was invested as against £13,430 for the second day (the Monday) last season when the programme consisted of seven races. On the Saturday of J 934 the machines handled £15,000 for eight races. On Saturday the betting was spirited throughout, the most popular events in this respect being the Waitomo Handicap and the concluding race, the Farewell Hack. Tito win machine handled £7920 and the place machine £9501, lho figures for the first day being £0343 10s and £G74S 10s respectively.
