WHO ARE THE LEAGUE?

(To the Editor.)

gir t i do not understand the Imotives behind the letters of the New Zealand Welfare League. They suggest that I impute people stealing their opinions from reports. I notice the opinions of “Ithurial in the Times, nor do I impute the hypothetication of ideas by the League or anyone else. My views of the League, and the opinion of the general public about the League, do affect the issue. Too many letters are published over the League’s signature. Every .letter is a criticism of a vital issue, and every t<me the League are cornered they cry off the argiAnent. Have the League ever admitted that even a part of their opponents’ views are correct? When one proves by experience that this "confidence in bankers” is not true, that no consideration is given, although securities are held, when the financial position becomes insecure, the League dodge an issue. The public have a right to know who are the League and what its strength is. Further, the public has a right to know what constructive policy the League advocates in order to substantiate their name as a Welfare League of New Zealand. Whose welfare arc the League concerned about?

These people, under cover of a generality, demand this, that and the other of other movements; but: suggest that they should reveal their identity, and evermore we receive the same answer: “It is not relevant; it does not affect the Issue." Surely the general public have a right to know who the combatants on both sides are.—l am,, etc., .

A VICTIM. Hamilton, May 24, 1935.
