INCREABE IN LICENSES.
'FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR. fßy Telegrapn.—Press Association.) WEL'LI'NGTON, Thursday. The increasing popularity of radio is shown by 'the number of licenses Issued for the current year. The total of radio licenses taken out, as at March 31, was 154,923 including 15i2,489 receiving licenses, the latter figure showing an increase in twelve ■months of 34,705. The increase In the same class of licenses for the previous year was 24,573. ■Licenses were issued in the various districts as follows (the increases being shown in parentheses) :—Auckland, 46,638 (11,712); Canterbury, 27,792 (6823); Otago, 20,964 (5351); Wellington, 57,095 (10,819). In addition to listeners’ licenses there arc 1214 dealers’ licenses, 873 licenses granted to experimental amateurs, three for experimental research, 319 free licenses to blind persons and institutions, and 25 broadcasting licenses.
