McClymont, In charge of "the Waltomo Volunteer Platoon and a popular employee, of the Waltomo Electric Power Board, was fnrewelled by a large gathering of friends on Monday evening, prior to his departure -to take up an appointment at the Penrose sub-station. : "Captain, Mackersey (Te Kultt) made a presentation on behalf of the Volunteers and Mr Davidson (engineer) on behair or the Power Board’s employees. All local sports bodies were strongly represented and, a very enjoyable evening was spent. Waltomo Power Board. At a special mfeetlng or the waltomo Electric Power Roard, on Monday, the renewed application Tor the supply of light and power to the Scafund Settlement Association —Panetapu Ltd., in the Wharopuhunga district, was further considered. It was contended that 13 rnrms tvould lio ready for the supply of electricity for milking and pumping motors, cooking and lighting at tho end or this month. A supply was asked for at the end of that period and It was suggested that the Power Board’s enginoer should review his .estimates of tho length of line required Tor the reticulation. The board doclded to agree to the reticulation subject to the necessary guar- . arrtees being signed. 1 , On tho motion or the chairman (Mr W. S. Cato) It was decided to recommend to the Incoming board that proposals for raising a loan of £15,000 ho considered, • with a view to future extensions In the ” Wharepuhunga area. General Eleotlon. Candidates for Parliamentary honours for the Waltomo seat have been conspicuously active during the past'week, addressing the electors in the smaller settlements of the electorate. Mr J. 11. Pcunlket, who represents tho Independent Country Party, has perhaps been most active. He has Just concluded a scries of addresses at Kln'oheku. To Uau-a-Moa, Oparau and Kawhta, where strong committees were set up to further'’ his candidature. Building Activity. Thero Is a mild boom in building activity In the principal streets of Otorohanga. There are now In the course of erection five reinforced rerro-concrete business ~\Rroml3es and a talkie-cabaret. The former are being erected In' Maniapoto Street and the latter In Tuhoro Street. Fowler’s Buildings, Limited, Is erecting two largo shops In the main street, one or which tho company itself will occupy. Shoop-Worrying. , Several complaints have been received * regarding the depredations or sheep-wor-rying dogs In the Otorohanga district during the past week, a number of sheep on various holdings aro reported to have been killed, while others have been Injured and may not recover. It Is a coincidence that following the sheep losses, many dogs used as pets in the residential area or tho town, have been poisoned during the past week. Publio Doboto. A public debate on the .Mortgage Corporation Bill anvl rural rehabilitation legislation -has been arranged ror May 10 at Otorohanga. Mr W. J. Broudfoot, M.P. and Mr ,1. 11, Furnlss, or Iluawaro, will be the speakers.
