STORE CATTLE

GOOD VALUES REALISED. SALE AT FRANKTON. GRAZIERS IN ATTENDANCE. Apparently Waikato graziers have not satisfied their requirements in regard to 'Store cattle for fattening purposes as was testified by the big attendance of buyers at the special store cattle sale at the Frankton yards yesterday. While the buying benohes were perhaps not so crowded as at the very successful store cattle sale held several weeks ago, this could be explained by the fact that there were fewer spectators at yesterday’s sale. There was some excellent quality offering among the 1000 head of cattle although generally they were .smaller than those marketed at the previous fixture. With many still possessing an abundance of feed, competition was keen throughout the sale, the bidding being spirited on the more forward conditioned pens, a weaker market existing for the poorer quality. There wap an excellent entry of ■steers, comprising local and East Coast consignment, and i values for these were maintained at ruling rates. The East 'Coast vendors obtained gqod prices for their large consignments of forward conditioned oattle which elicited a keen inquiry. Polled Angus and Herefords were penned in larger numbers than other breeds and types suitable for the ehllled meat trade were eagerly sought. 'There was a natural preference for the Polled Angus, although Herefords were not far behind in

quotations. Forward conditioned Polled Angus steers made from £6 Is ’-to £6 9s, while forward conditioned Hereford steers realised from £5 49s to £6 2s. /Female cattle were penned iri smaller numbers and values In this section were a shade -easier, although the-more forward sorts sold at prevailing rates. It is Interesting to note that the top price at the previous sale,,£6 9s, was -also reached yesterday,, while other prices also compared favourably.
