Phenomenally large entries have ; been received by the executive of the Hamilton Amateur Sporfs 'Club for | their special Jubilee sports meeting . I to be held at Steele Park next Moni | day. Representative of all parts of i the Dominion, many well known figures ; will be contesting the various events , with prominent local competitors. New .Plymouth, Thames, Te ’Awamutu, Auckland, Cambridge, Rotorua and other districts will be strongly represented at the gathering. In the cycling events, Miss Violet Baird, Auckland, New’ 'Zealand champion lady oyclist, Matt Bell, Rotorua ohampion, Merv. Gamble, . Auckland champion and’holder of New Zealand one mile record, G. Holland, Auckland and New Zealand junior champion, will be formidable contestants. 'Other competitors-who will make their presence felt will be Cliff Hawkins, New 'Plymouth ohampion and North Auckland road champion and several other outstanding provincial . riders. A strong contingent of loqal wheelmen ■ will also be competing. Among the contenders in the running events will be M. C. Baker, Thames champion, and the' Rotorua champion, :F. R. Kerr. Judging from the entries received there will be large fields In all events in this section, local runners being opposed by well-known provincial representatives. . - ' ,-. . • '
Mr Frank Findlay, who has entered for the pole vault and high jump events, has Issued a. special challenge to Mr iColln Goosman, the well-known Hamilton competitor, In the pole vault contest.
The. competition .promises -to be very keen for the several handsome trophies that are to be presented by the Hamilton iClub and It is expected that some outstanding performances will be registered.
