THE DOUGLAS PLAN.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Under 'the above caption my friend “W.L.C.,” in your issue of April 27, ail's his lack of knowledge of the subject- “ ‘Agricola’ sprinkles a little Douglas plan seed about now and then, but he either cannot, or will not, topdress, which is nothing more nor less than agricultural stupidity." It is certainly “agricultural stupidity” to sprinkle good seed on ground that is not ready for the seed. It is a waste of time and energy. The several questions asked by your correspondent in regard to exchange, shipping, insurance, etc., will operate as they do to-day. The main thing Is to remove our monetary system, ifrom the present Bank of England control and set up an independent price level within New Zealand, regardless of overseas prices, on a basis satisfactory to all classes in New Zealand.

Twelve months ago the writer considered Mr G. W. Richards to be a fairly hard proposition, but 'his recent contributions in your columns are evidence that he has done 6ome hard thinking along sound lines, and I offer my congratulations. When “W.iL.'G.” has gone,as far as'Mr Richards has he will be in a position to benefit from a liberal “top-dressing of Douglas plan seed.” In conclusion, my advice to your correspondent is to make a study of money; he will find it fascinating. His concluding paragraph is sure evidence that he has a lot to learn in regard to the exchanges. Wishing him the best of luck, —I am, etc.,

AGRICOLA, Hamilton, April 29, 1935.
