CAMBRIDGE BAND.

ANNUAL MEETING. THE YEAR’S OPERATIONS. CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Cambridge Municipal Band was held last evening, when the Mayor, Mr C. 11. Priestley, presided over a representative attendance of citizens and bandsmen. The llnanclal statement showed that the year commenced with a credit balance of £2 15s and concluded with a debit of £1 Os 2d. Assets totalled £383 17S' Od, Including £3B 17s Od in the Post Office Savings Bank. The annual report stated that the band had maintained steady practices and progressed in spite of the fact that the bandmaster had left the district. Conducted by Mr F. Kear, of Hamilton, the hand attended the contest at Te Aroha and a very good record of three seconds and a third was obtained. During the year the sum of £24 was raised by dances. Church parades were held regularly and were well attended. Tnanks were extended to the ladles’ committee for its help during'the year and also to all who helped to send the band to the contest.

Speaking to the report, Mr W. White said It was a matter for congratulation that the hand had carried on so well considering the small subsidy received from the council, lie would like to see the council’s subsidy increased to the original llgure of £7O, or at least enough to cover the bandmaster’s salary. These remarks were endorsed by others present. The Mayor said he could make no promises, but the band having now proved itself capable or carrying on with limited llnances, he felt the Incoming council woiild deal with the band subsidy on the estimates sympathetically. Mr Priestley congratulated the committee on Us chairman, Mr J. S. Hooker, whose Interest and enthusiasm had done much for the hand. The resignation of Mr W. H. Woolley rrom the position or treasurer, owing to pressure of business was accepted with regret and a resolution was carried unanimously, extending thanks to him Tor his services. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron. Mr P. Lye, M.P.; president, the Mayor or Cambridge; vice-presidents, , Messrs J. S. Hooker, R. Simpson, R. Cubls, B. H. Bishop, A. E. Peppercorn, H. Wood; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. M. Hall; auditor, Mr F. T. Ray; citizens’ representatives, Messrs J. Conder and one other. A pleasing function 1 took place when the Mayor made a presentation to Mr F. Kear, of Hamilton, lor his'services In conducting the hand, after the resignation' of Mr C. Stuart.: Appreciation of the interest of the drum-major, Mr F. H. Green, was evidenced In u further presentation to him. Mr C. W. Boyce congratulated the hand on the progress made during the past few months, both in marching and playing. The hand was a credit to the towlTand ha hoped it would continue successfully. Mr M. McMahon', who will take over the conductorshlp of the hand on May 1, was extended a warm welcome by Mr Priestley. Band Officers Elected. Following the annual meeting the,band members met to elect tlielr officers, who \vere appointed as follows: Drum-major, Mr F. H. Green; sergeant, Mr R. Kingdom corporal, Mr B. Smith; lance-corporal and librarian, Mr K. Conder; assistant-librarians, Messrs S. Simpson and M. Cubis; band representatives on committee, Messrs R. Kingdom 0. Kelly, s. Simpson, D. A. Saunders, J. D. Baker, it. Hague.
