WELLINGTON, Monday

Mr justice H. F. Johnston will become Judge of the Court of Review.

Additional members of the Court of Review are:—

Mr R. S. Chadwick, of Dannevlrke. Mr A. Coleman, of Stratford.

The Court will come into operation to-morrow.

Mr Ralph Searle Chadwick has occupied a prominent position in farming and local body affairs in the Dannevirke district. He was born in Yorkshire in 1874. He farmed at Whetukura, near Dannevirke until about four years ago, when he retired to live in Dannevirke. Mr Chadwick was chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Farmers Meat Company for a number of years, and was one of the promoters ot the meat merger scheme in the district in 1924. He also has taken a prominent part in the affairs of the Southern Hawke’s Bay branch of the Farmers’ Union, and has served both as chairman and member on the Dannevirke Borough Council, the power board and the county council. Mr Alfred Coleman has been prominently associated with business, legal and sports affairs in Taranaki. He was a member of the Mortgagors’ Relief Commission and is a member of the legal firm of Rutherfurd, Coleman and Mac Alister, of Stratford. He is a director of Egmont Collieries, Limited, and is associated with several other business concerns. He has been treasurer of the Stratford Racing Club for a number of years. Besides his legal practice, he has been associated with several commissions of inquiry, and has received the congratulations of Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., on the efficient and lucid manner in which he presented his arguments.-

CAMBRIDGE BAND.

ANNUAL MEETING. /THU YEAR’S OPERATIONS. CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Cambridge Municipal Band was held last evening, when the Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, presided over a representative attendance of citizens and bandsmen. The nnancial statement showed that the year commenced with a credit balance of £2 15s and concluded with a debit of £1 6s 2d. Assets totalled £383 17s 9d, including £3B 17s Od in the Post Office Savings Bang. The annual report stated that the band had maintained steady practices and progressed in spite of the fact that the bandmaster had left the district. Conducted by Mr F. Kear, of Hamilton, the band attended the contest at Te Aroha and a very good record or three seconds and a third was obtained.

During the year the sum or £24 was raised by dances. Church parades were held regularly and were well attended. Thanks were extended to the ladles’ committee for its help during the year and also to all who helped to send the band to the contest.

Speaking to the report, Mr W. White saiu it was a matter ror congratulation that the band had carried on so well considering the small subsidy received from the council, lie would like to see the council’s subsidy Increased to the original llgure of £7O, or at least enough to cover the bandmaster’s salary. These remarks were endorsed by others present. The Mayor said he could make no promises, hut the band having now proved itself capable or carrying on with limited llnances, he felt the Incoming council WQiild deal with the band subsidy on the estimates sympathetically. Mr Priestley congratulated the committee on Its chairman', Mr J. S. Hooker, whose Interest and enthusiasm had done much for the band.

The resignation of Mr W. H. Woolley from the position of treasurer, owing to pressure or business was accepted with regret and a resolution was carried unanimously, extending thanks to him for his services.

Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron. Mr F. Lyc, M.P.; president, the Mayor of Cambridge; vice-presidents, Messrs J. S. Hooker, R. Simpson, R. Cubis, B. 11, Bishop, A. E. Peppercorn, H. Wood; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. M. Hall; auditor, Mr F. T. Ray; citizens’ representatives, Messrs J. Cornier and one other. A pleasing function' took place when the Mayor made a presentation to Mr F. Kear, of Hamilton, Tor his services In conducting the hand, after tho resignation of Mr c. Stuart.: Appreciation of the interest of the drum-major, Mr F. H. Green, was evidenced In a further presentation to him. Mr C. W. Boyce congratulated tho band on the progress made (luring the past few months, bulb hi marching and playing. The hand was a credit to the towTT'aiid he hoped it would continue successfully. Mr M. McMahon', who will take over the conductorshlp of the band on May l, was extended a warm welcome by Mr Priestley. Band Officers Elected. Following the annual meeting the band members met to elect their officers, who were appointed as follows; Drum-major, Mr F. 11. Green; sergeant, Mr It. Kingdom corporal, Mr U. Smith; lance-corporal and librarian, Mr K. Condor; assistant-librarians, Messrs S. Simpson and M. Cubis; band representatives cm committee, Messrs R. Kingdom C. Kelly, S. Simpson, D. A. Saunders, J. D. Baker, N. Hague.
