NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday. The flrih round in play in the New Zealand chess congress was completed yesterday. This was the last of the qualifying rounds. On the live rounds J., A. Erskine (Southland) is leading, having won all live, The next players are A. W. Gyles (Wellington) and 11. R- Abbott (Canterhurv). Gyles won four games and lost one and Abbott won three and drew two. ) CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. The following will play in the finals: Darwin (Christ,church), Scott (Wanganui), i ivies ( Wellington), Hicks (Wellington). Le relit (Southland), Rover (Wellington), Erskine (Southland), Kelling (Wellington), Abbott (Christchurch), Watt (Otago), Dunlop (Otago), Severn (Nelson). The final games commenced this morning.
